3rd Meeting of the WCO Europe Region National Contact Points for Capacity Building

A representative of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan participated in 3rd Meeting of the WCO Europe Region National Contact Points for Capacity Building in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was held from January 27 to 29, 2020.

The Meeting aimed at deepening and updating the participants knowledge of the WCO Capacity Building model, support by the WCO and the ROCB Europe for Customs reform and modernization. It also aimed to strengthen the cooperative relations among the contact persons and support the establishment of a network of national contact points in the WCO Europe Region.

The meeting was attended by representatives of customs services of 20 countries: the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Azerbaijan Republic, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Ukraine, Georgia and others, as well as experts from the World Customs Organization.

Since 1993, Turkmenistan has been a member of the World Customs Organization. On May 17, 1993, our country ratified an important international legal document - the Convention on the Establishment of a Customs Cooperation Council (the official name of the World Customs Organization). Over the past years, cooperation with the WCO has been developing in a positive way. Our relations became especially active after the visit of the Secretary General of the WCO, Mr. Kunio Mikuriy, to Turkmenistan on January 16-17, last year.
