DEVELOPMENT OF SPORT AND SOCIAL HEALTH MOVEMENT IS ONE OF THE PRIORITIES OF STATE POLICY

Every year in Turkmenistan, the mass sports and health movement is rapidly gaining popularity. As noted at the extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on July 3, dedicated to the results of the first half of the year, large-scale work is under way in the country to stimulate and improve the sports sector, build its potential, and form the accompanying multifunctional infrastructure. In recent years, magnificent sports complexes equipped with modern technicals, stadiums, specialized sports schools, and hundreds of other facilities have been built in all regions of the country. Within the framework of state support for the physical culture and health movement and sports of the highest achievements, national legislation is constantly being improved, a number of programs have been adopted and are being successfully implemented. In 2018, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy was established. The large-scale activities carried out in this area contribute to the further enhancement of the country’s prestige, which makes a significant contribution to the international sports movement, uniting people around high humanistic ideals. After all, sport, as President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasizes, is an important factor in strengthening global peace, relations of friendship and fruitful cooperation between states and peoples. The policy pursued in this area is yielding real results: domestic sport is reaching qualitatively new frontiers, and Turkmenistan is increasingly becoming a venue for major international competitions. A vivid example of this is the triumphant V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Holding the Asian Games-2017 has become a mega-project in the history of the sovereign Motherland. Having become the host of these prestigious competitions, our country has established itself in the status of a sports power capable of hosting large-scale competitions. The international rally “Amul-Khazar” successfully held in 2018, the route of which ran along the route of the historic Great Silk Road, and the World Weightlifting Championship, also contributed to the growth of the sports authority of Turkmenistan. Thus, our country, being a full member of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia, contributes to the expansion and popularization of the Olympic movement.

An eloquent testimony to the high assessment and recognition of the successes of Turkmenistan in the development of sports, the promotion of the values of the Olympic and physical culture and health movement was the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a special Resolution on the annual celebration of World Bicycle Day on June 3. Thus, taking active steps to develop and popularize a healthy lifestyle, physical culture and sports, Turkmenistan is strengthening its status as a sports power.
