Transport diplomacy of Turkmenistan and development of the customs and transport spheres

The development of Turkmen transport diplomacy, which is an important component of the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan, implemented under the wise leadership of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is confirmed by large-scale international projects, such as the commissioning of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran steel highway along the North-South line, transport and transit corridor "Lapis-Lazuli" and others.

Of course, these projects create favorable conditions for international transport, ensuring the delivery of vital goods and cargo. In this connection, the improvement and development of the customs and transport spheres is one of the important areas of transport diplomacy in Turkmenistan. The work carried out in this direction is mainly aimed at improving the customs infrastructure and simplifying the procedures associated with international transport.

The agenda of the last meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan brought up the issue of Turkmenistan's accession to the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Revised Kyoto Convention). Concrete steps are currently being taken to join. An online seminar is planned with the participation of leading experts of the World Customs Organization. Joining the Convention will also contribute to building up mutually beneficial customs cooperation within the framework of the above projects.

Continuing the topic, we would also like to note that on September 14, a trilateral meeting in the format of a video conference was held between representatives of the customs services of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan. The agenda of the meeting included discussion of the draft Roadmap for expanding and deepening cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in the field of trade and investment, energy, transport and logistics, telecommunications and information technology, in customs and border issues within the framework of a large-scale joint project - an international transit and transport corridor along the route Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey.

Thus, the ongoing effective work to improve the customs and transport spheres and the modern logistics system being created in Turkmenistan contribute to an increase in cargo transportation throughout the Eurasian continent. The growth in the volume of freight traffic on the Kazakhstan - Turkmenistan - Iran railroad is a good example of this.
