On May 3, 2023, representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, Head of the Customs Control Organization Department, Agoyly Niyazov, and Head of the Customs Procedures Automation Department, Ata Rahmanov, took part in the conference “International transport and transit corridors: interconnectedness and development-2023”.
A. Niyazov devoted his speech to the role of economic customs regimes in the development of transit potential. “Growth in the volume of re-export of foreign goods placed under the customs regimes of a bonded warehouse, processing in the customs territory and a free customs zone is of significant importance in increasing transit cargo flows,” he said. According to him, Turkmenistan has great opportunities to use these customs regimes, that is, their legal framework is clearly defined and there are favorable conditions for compliance with the requirements of customs regimes, as well as favorable conditions for logistics. There are currently 14 customs warehouses operating in Turkmenistan along the main transit corridors.
A. Rahmanov in his speech focused on the development of information technologies, the creation of new automated systems, which are designed to simplify and speed up the interaction of participants in foreign economic activity with customs authorities. He noted that in order to simplify and harmonize transport, trade and customs regulations during transit, Turkmenistan supports the participation of the Customs Service in such global and regional projects as the GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation) Project “Digitalization of the procedure for international road transport in the transport corridors of Central Asia to Strengthen Regional Cooperation and Trade” and the CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation) Improved Transit System and Common Information Exchange Project.
