The delegation of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, headed by the Deputy Chairman of the Service, was on a working visit to Brussels (Belgium) to participate in the 2024 World Customs Organization (WCO) European Region Heads of Customs Conference, which was held at the WCO Headquarters on April 29, 2024. The event brought together representatives of customs services from 53 member States of the European region of the World Customs Organization.
During the Conference, which was held with the personal participation of the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Ian Saunders, issues related to the modernization of the WCO and strengthening customs cooperation at the level of the European region were discussed. The reports of the WCO Finance and Control Committees were listened to, and the budget for the 2024-2025 financial year was planned.
The Conference participants also discussed the Agenda of the next Conference, which includes e-commerce, vulnerabilities at customs borders affecting customs cooperation in the European region, events for the 2024-2025 financial year, and the selection of candidates for positions at the WCO.
The visit to Brussels also provided an opportunity for the Turkmen delegation to discuss the issue of acquiring the status of a Regional Training Center for the WCO at the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
