On 8 September 2025, a meeting was held between the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and Mr. Oliver Stolpe, Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Central Asia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation within the framework of the UNODC-supported Passenger and Cargo Control Programme. Particular attention was paid to the activities of the existing Port Control Units in Turkmenbashy, Ashgabat and Farap, as well as plans for the establishment of a new unit in Sarahs.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the key priorities of further cooperation, including enhancing the efficiency of the customs service, strengthening regional security, and countering transnational organized crime, drug trafficking and human trafficking.

A separate topic of the meeting was the acquisition of official status by the Regional Training Centre of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the organization of joint activities in partnership with UNODC. As a result of the talks, the parties confirmed their readiness to continue joint work and strengthen the partnership in the name of security and sustainable development.
