Turkmenistan as an initiator of international projects

Our country initiates a number of large international and regional projects. Their implementation will ensure sustainable development in the region and between the countries of Central Asia, the development of good neighborly relations between peoples, the strengthening of cooperation and the increase in commodity flows.

The first steps to sign the Agreement on Transit and Transport Cooperation (Agreement on the Lapis Lazuli route) between Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Georgia, the Republic of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were taken by Turkmenistan.

The document was signed on November 15, 2017 at the ministerial meeting of the 7th Conference of Regional Economic Cooperation on Afghanistan in Ashgabat. Its adoption was a concrete contribution of the Ashgabat forum to building up a productive international partnership in order to increase the region’s economic integration and significantly increase trade volumes.

The extensive work launched in our country in order to improve the transport sector is another indication that caring for people and improving the well-being of the people is the most important priority of a socially oriented policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

As the organizer of the First Caspian Economic Forum, Turkmenistan also actually confirms its commitment to a policy of wide international cooperation in the Caspian. Issues related to the Caspian region occupy a special place in the foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan, implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In his speech at the V Summit of the Heads of the Caspian littoral states, he noted that cooperation in the Caspian largely depends on the degree of involvement of countries in trade, economic and transport processes and expressed confidence that the first Caspian Economic Forum will confirm the readiness of our states to put together efforts in this direction.
