According to the results of a study conducted by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), time and costs required for the export and transit of goods across Central Asian borders were analyzed.
The study revealed that, during August–October 2025, at Turkmenistan’s road customs checkpoints in Garabogaz, Farap, and Dashoguz, the average processing time for vehicles carrying export and transit cargo was 37 minutes, the shortest among the Central Asian countries. For comparison: Kazakhstan – 1 hour 30 minutes, Tajikistan – 1 hour 40 minutes, Kyrgyzstan – 1 hour 44 minutes, Uzbekistan – 1 hour 10 minutes.
An analysis of vehicle queues at border crossings also shows high efficiency of Turkmen customs points. Specifically, the average waiting time in queues at Turkmen customs checkpoints was up to 35 minutes, whereas in Kazakhstan it exceeded 2 days, in Tajikistan – 1 hour 15 minutes, in Kyrgyzstan – 40 minutes, and in Uzbekistan – 12 hours 20 minutes.
These indicators confirm Turkmenistan’s strengthening position as a reliable transit bridge between Asia and Europe. On this strategic route, the infrastructure and capabilities of the country’s customs crossings are being continuously developed, “green corridors” and digital solutions are actively implemented, ensuring coordinated and efficient customs control.
