On July 1, 2022, an online meeting was held between the specialists of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the expert of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Mr. Konstantinos Alexopoulos, organized with the assistance of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Geneva. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the technical issues of the implementation of the international e-TIR system in Turkmenistan, the possibilities of integrating this system into the ASYCUDA WORLD customs information system.
During the meeting, Mr. Konstantinos Alexopoulos made a presentation on the e-TIR application developed by UNECE experts. As reported, this system has already been introduced in many countries of the region, such as Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan. It is expected that the launch of the system in Iran will take place this year.
The e-TIR international system aims to ensure the secure exchange of data relating to the international transit of goods, vehicles or containers between national Customs systems in accordance with the provisions of the TIR Convention and to enable Customs authorities to manage data on guarantees issued by guarantee chains to holders authorized to use the system TIR.
Recall that since 1996 Turkmenistan has been a member of the Customs Convention on the International Carriage of Goods under the TIR Carnet dated November 14, 1975.
