Yesterday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has met with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, who arrived in the Turkmen capital at the head of his country’s delegation.

Expressing sincere gratitude for the cordial welcome, the high guest conveyed warm greetings from President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili to the head of state, as well as wishes for wellbeing and prosperity to all the Turkmen people. As was emphasized, Georgia highly appreciates the foreign policy strategy being pursued by Turkmenistan, based on the principles of positive neutrality, and is interested in strengthening traditionally productive bilateral relations.

Sending response greetings and best wishes to the President and people of the friendly country, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan, for its part, is also aimed at further development of interstate relations built on a mutually beneficial and long-term basis.

As was emphasized, it is significant that the current visit of the head of Government of Georgia takes place in the anniversary year, in particular, July 16 this year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In this context, the head of state pointed out with satisfaction that over the past period, significant positive experience has been accumulated in collaboration in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

As part of the exchange of views on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation, the parties spoke in favour of deepening a constructive dialogue in all areas. As was noted, a reliable basis for filling the Turkmen-Georgian partnership with a qualitatively new çontent was laid by the agreements reached in recent years at the highest level.

Confirming the desire of the parties to build up relations on the principles of equality, mutual respect and openness, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili expressed confidence that the present meeting would give a new impetus to expanding friendly contacts between our countries and further strengthening mutually beneficial ties.

The President of Turkmenistan and his guest highlighted with satisfaction that today both states are successfully cooperating not only in a bilateral manner, but also within the authoritative organizations.

Noting that our countries have enough potential to deepen contacts in various areas of economic activity, the parties specified the expediency of studying the possibilities of increasing the range of import-export goods. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the significant role of the Intergovernmental Commission, which aim is to develop the most effective forms of partnership.

The President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Georgia paid special attention to the implementation of various projects and the fulfillment of existing potential, which will significantly optimize economic and trade relations. The prospects of forming a transport and transit corridor between the Caspian and Black Sea regions with an access to the states of Europe and the Middle East were also emphasized.

Another topic discussed was the development of bilateral relations through private business. In this context, it was specified that there are favorable conditions and opportunities for establishing a fruitful dialogue between business communities. Making the full use of the potential in this area will contribute to strengthening trade relations.

Speaking about the importance of deepening humanitarian cooperation, the parties pointed out that contacts in this area have to be based on specific joint plans and programs. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the need to support in every way the desire of the two peoples for close communication, learning the rich cultural and historical heritage of both states, as well as to expand cooperation in the scientific, educational and healthcare fields, sports and tourism. At the same time, the importance of organizing creative events, exhibitions and conferences was highlighted.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili expressed confidence in the further successful development of interstate relations across the entire range and exchanged wishes for peace and prosperity to the peoples of the two friendly countries.

Negotiations have also been held between the delegations of Turkmenistan and Georgia, during which priority issues of cooperation in various sectors were covered.

Identifying the trade and economic sectors among the promising areas of bilateral cooperation, the meeting participants emphasized that the modern era requires new approaches to deepening productive partnership. As was noted, today there is great potential for increasing trade turnover, expanding the goods range of mutual deliveries.

With the consideration pf modern realities, the transport and communications sector was singled out among the basic areas. In this context, the parties discussed the possibility of carrying out joint projects to create a combined transport, transit and logistics infrastructure. Specifying the commonality of interests of the parties in this area, the participants emphasized that Turkmenistan and Georgia are partners in this issue.

As part of the exchange of views on the prospects for diversifying bilateral cooperation, the members of the delegations pointed out with satisfaction the effectiveness of joint activity in the energy sector. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the importance of implementing promising projects that not only meet the interests of our countries, but also designed to give a powerful impetus to the formation of energy security architecture throughout the Eurasian space.

Confirming the readiness of Turkmenistan and Georgia to add dynamics and concrete content to the partnership, the parties expressed confidence that traditional interstate relations would continue to develop successfully for the benefit of the friendly peoples.

Based on the outcomes of the talks, a number of bilateral documents were signed, which will give new impetus to the development of mutually beneficial relations.
