Yesterday, a ceremony has been held in the Turkmen capital on the instructions of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to award the athletes who won prizes at recent major international competitions such as the 7th International Sports Games “Children of Asia” in the city of Vladivostok, the Russian Federation, and the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in the city of Konya, the Republic of Turkey.

Members of the Government, leaders and representatives of the Halk Maslakhaty and the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh, ministries and departments, public organizations, universities, and the media took part in the event, held in a conference hall of the “Sport” Hotel in the Olympic Park.

Today, the winners of the 7th International Sports Games “Children of Asia” and the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games have accepted congratulations.

The team of Turkmenistan in Vladivostok was represented by 62 athletes who competed for medals in nine sports such as 3x3 basketball, boxing, kurash wrestling, athletics, table tennis, swimming, sambo, wrestling (Greco-Roman and freestyle) and archery. The athletes of the national team won 16 different medals.

In Konya, Turkmen athletes took a total of 23 prizes, including 4 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze medals.

The participants listened with great attention to the welcoming address from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who congratulated the members of the national teams of Turkmenistan on their successful performance at international competitions.

In a solemn atmosphere, on behalf and on the instructions of the head of state, to the thunderous applause of the participants, athletes, who won prizes, were presented with gifts, as well as a special sportswear from the Charitable Foundation to Assist Children in Need of Guardianship named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Among the athletes who brought gold to our country at the 7th International Sports Games “Children of Asia” is track and field athlete Sabina Kasymjanova. A the 9th grade pupil at the general education school No. 26 in Danev etrap, Lebap Velayat, was ahead of her competitors in the 3000 meters race event. Umyt Kakalyev, a 10th grade pupil of the “Olimp” secondary sports school, won the highest prize in freestyle wrestling competitions.

Serdar Mammedov, a member of the national kickboxing team of Turkmenistan, was the gold medalist in Konya. Two gold and one bronze medals were added to the collection of awards won in Turkey by Gulnabat Kadyrova, an athlete of our national weightlifting team, the coach at the weightlifting school of the Dashoguz Velayat’s Gurbansoltan eje District Department of Sports and Youth Policy.

Kristina Shermetova, the weightlifting coach at the 6th sports school of the Ashgabat City Main Department for Sports and Youth Policy, an athlete of the Turkmenistan weightlifting team was awarded one gold and two silver medals.

There was also a ceremony to present gifts on behalf of Serdar with Arkadag to athletes who took part in international competitions and won second and third places, and their coaches, who make a considerable contribution to identifying new talents for big-time sport and training the Olympic resources.

Athletes and their coaches, awarded on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, assured that they would make every effort to further raise the prestige of Turkmen sports around the world.

Within a short historical period of time, multi-type stadiums and sports complexes that meet international standards, and specialized sports schools have been put into operation both in the cities and villages of the country. The metropolitan Olympic Park with modern complexes for Olympic sports, which has no analogues in the region, has become the decoration of Ashgabat and the pride of its residents.

The sports component is an indispensable condition in the construction of educational and preschool institutions, which include modern well-equipped sports halls, football, basketball and volleyball grounds, swimming pools, and tennis courts. A good incentive for young people on the path to health, physical and spiritual self-improvement is the nationwide sports days organized annually among school, university, sectoral and regional teams. Mass bicycle rides covering all regions of the country have become traditional.

All these measures contribute to the achievement of high successes by representatives of Turkmen sports. The today’s celebration participants spoke about this, expressing their sincere gratitude to Head of State Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Hero Arkadag for paying constant attention to the establishment of the healthy lifestyle principles, as well as for the development of mass physical training and high-performance sports in Turkmenistan.
