Occupying a favorable geographical position, confidently strengthening its position as an important transit and transport hub and logistics center of regional and continental significance, our country, under the leadership of the esteemed President, strives to ensure reliable transport transit, which is successfully used by dozens of countries. In order to expand the possibilities of transport and transit corridors passing through the territory of our country, the priority vectors of the activity of the State Customs Service have been determined. One of these tasks is to provide favorable conditions for the transportation of goods in containers.

In 2020, in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan on amendments to the Customs Code of Turkmenistan, the concept of "container" is included in the definition of "vehicle". Previously, "container" was used in the meaning of "reusable packaging". In 2021, the National Parliament of Turkmenistan considered and adopted the Laws “On Accession to the Customs Convention Concerning Containers” and “On Accession to the Convention on the Customs Regime Applied to Containers Transferred to the Pool and Used for International Transportation”. Thus, concrete steps have been taken to create favorable conditions for the efficient movement of goods across national borders.

We would also like to note the powerful capacity of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port of the international sea port located along the Lazurit and Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) international transit corridors. There is a container terminal on the territory of the port, which is engaged in the transit shipment of goods arriving by rail, road and air. All conditions have been created here for sending 400,000 containers a year. The conditions created here favor the increase in container traffic.

Thus, according to customs statistics, in 2021 container traffic increased by 157 percent compared to 2020, and for 11 months of this year this figure increased by 41 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
