From July 24 to July 28, 2023, a joint practical training was organized for members of the Port Control Groups of the international seaport of Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) and the international seaport of Alyat (Azerbaijan) under the UNODC-WCO Global Container Control Programme (CCP). The event was organized by the Regional Office for Central Asia of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

The event was aimed at to increasing knowledge and experience of PCUs to minimize the risk of maritime containers being exploited for trafficking of various illicit goods and other forms of organized crime activity and strengthening practical interaction between Port Control Groups at the seaports of Turkmenbashi and Alyat.

Experts from the World Customs Organization acted as mentors. On July 24-25, the training was held on the Turkmen side, and from July 26 to 28 in the Alyat seaport in Baku. During the practical training, the participants exchanged experience, jointly analyzed shipping documents and inspected cargo, as well as profiling passenger lists in the directions of Turkmenbashi-Alat and back.
