On January 16, 2024, a meeting of representatives of the border departments of Turkmenistan and Iran was held at the Artyk customs post of the Ahal velayat customs.

From the Turkmen side, the delegation was headed by the head of the customs control department of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan A. Niyazov, the Iranian delegation was headed by the head of the Lotfabad customs post, Mr. Korban Karimi.

The Turkmen delegation consisted of representatives of customs, migration, border services, the Turkmenavtoulaglary and Turkmendemirellary Agencies, as well as the director of the state enterprise Turkmenulaggozegchilik. In addition, the meeting was attended by the Consul General of Turkmenistan in Iran (the city of Mashhad), as well as the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in the Ahal velayat.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for the development of road freight transport through the Artyk-Lotfabad customs posts. In this context, the issues of increasing the work time of Artyk-Lotfabad officials, simplifying the issuance of visas for truck drivers and reducing waiting time through expedited cargo inspection were discussed. The issue of repairing the Iranian part of the road running between customs posts was also raised.

Mutual understanding and readiness to continue further interaction were achieved on all issues discussed.
