On 6 November 2026, a working meeting was held via videoconference between representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Heads of the customs administrations of the two countries.

During the meeting, the participants discussed ways to increase the volume of transit cargo transportation through the more efficient use of the throughput capacity of the Farap Avtoyollary and Alat customs posts, located along the Turkmen-Uzbek state border.

Currently, this border crossing point plays an important role not only in facilitating the movement of goods within the framework of foreign trade between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, but also in handling transit cargo flows along the East–West International Transport Corridor and other international transport routes.

Following the extensive modernisation of the Farap Avtoyollary customs post on the Turkmen side, its throughput capacity has doubled. The customs post is currently capable of processing up to 1,000 vehicles per day.

As a follow-up to the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the possibility of holding joint working meetings directly at the Farap Avtoyollary and Alat customs posts in order to familiarise themselves with their operations on site and discuss practical measures to further improve the efficiency of the border crossing point.
