Yesterday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group Ms. Amina J. Mohammed.

Turkmenistan has become the first Central Asian country, which the UN high ranking representative visited during her working trip made with a view of participation in the Second High-Level International Conference “Water for Sustainable Development” to take place in Tajikistan in the upcoming days.

Having expressed her acknowledgement for the time found to meet, the guest conveyed warm words of greeting from UN Secretary General António Guterres and noted that she is very glad to have an opportunity to visit independent neutral Turkmenistan, which is not only one of the dynamically developing countries of the planet  but is also a long standing and reliable partner of the United Nations in the Central Asian region.

Having welcomed cordially Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the head of the state conveyed his reciprocal best wishes to the leadership of the UN. As was pointed out, Turkmenistan attaches a special significance for cooperation with the largest international organizations, first of all, with the UN, which acts as time demanding platform for the holding of fruitful and efficient dialogue on topical issues of modernity.

On the margins of the meeting, interlocutors exchanged views of the state and prospect of development of long years’ fruitful cooperation, to which tens of projects realized in various spheres testifies. Possible areas of joint work within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which are closely associated with key goals and tasks outlined in the National Program for the Socio-Economic Development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052, were also discussed.

During the conversation, it was marked that Turkmenistan, successfully implementing the policy of neutrality, makes a weighty contribution to sustainable development, strengthening of peace and security in Central Asia, acting as author of many time demanding initiatives in the fields of energy, transport, ecology, healthcare, social and other spheres, which have found their reflection in a number of the UN General Assembly Resolutions.

Having underlined the importance of large-scale national and regional level projects implemented by Turkmenistan, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations thanked President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the active position of the Turkmen side in solution of issues concerning such topical problems as ensuring of global energy security, development of wide international cooperation in the transport and logistics sphere, rational use of resources, climate change as well as environmental protection.

Ms. Amina J. Mohammed expressed deep interest of the organization she represents in the further deepening and steady development of traditional cooperation, which corresponds, to the interest of wellbeing of entire humanity and Un Sustainable Development Goals.

Having thanked for such high appreciation of the work carried out, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov underlined that Turkmenistan will further intend to take an active part in international efforts in strategically important areas.

Having bid farewell to each other, the head of Turkmenistan and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, exchanged kind wishes, expressing confidence in successful continuation of constructive dialogue built on the basis of long term and mutual trust.
