In today's rapidly changing world, container shipping is becoming an increasingly popular way to transport goods. They guarantee the safety of transported goods and reduce transport costs.

Work to increase the volume of container traffic is being carried out at all levels. An important role in this is played by the development of customs infrastructure and the simplification of customs procedures.

In this direction, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is implementing a consistent program. Thanks to the provision of the customs authorities of Turkmenistan with modern technical means of inspection that allow checking containers without unloading, automation and digitalization of customs procedures, the introduction of the TIR-EPD system has significantly accelerated customs operations related to the clearance of containers.

It should also be noted that in 2021, Turkmenistan became a member of two international customs conventions, such as the “Customs Convention on Containers” and the “Convention on the Customs Treatment Applied to Containers Transferred to the Pool and Used for International Transport”.

The experience of employees plays a significant role. As a member of the World Customs Organization, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is actively developing international cooperation in order to study and implement the best international practices in its activities. For example, participation in the UNODC and World Customs Organization Container Control Program (CCP) helps our staff gain new experience in container shipping.
