On April 11, 2023, meetings were held between the customs services of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the format of a videoconference.

Employees of the Central Office of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and their colleagues from the Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as the head of the Alat customs post, gathered to discuss issues relevant to both sides.

Among the issues on the agenda, the possibility of increasing the throughput capacity of border customs posts on the Turkmen-Uzbek border, in particular, the Farap and Alat checkpoints, was discussed. Colleagues spoke about promising joint tasks, reconstruction and modernization of customs posts and how this could affect traffic flows.

During the dialogue, new interesting topics for discussion appeared. In general, international cooperation in this section of the border was rated by both sides as even more than “satisfactory”.

As a result of the meeting, measures were identified to prevent the formation of congestion at customs posts, as well as to increase the throughput capacity of the Farap and Alat customs posts up to 1,000 vehicles per day.
