From 16-20 May, 2023, a meeting of experts from the customs services of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in the city of Bukhara to compare the data of customs statistics of mutual trade in goods of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan following the results of 2022. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Protocol signed on July 14, 2022 between the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the exchange of information on the movement of goods in mutual trade between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the specialists compared the data of customs statistics of mutual trade in goods at the end of 2022, discussed such issues as the methodology for compiling statistics on foreign trade in goods, identifying methodological causes of discrepancies and further improving the mechanism for cooperation in the field of customs statistics.

The methodology for generating data on foreign trade in goods statistics used in the departments of both countries is in line with the international standard "Statistics of international trade in goods: concepts and definitions" of the UN Statistics Division.

At the meeting, it was noted that the main methodological reasons for discrepancies in the data of mutual trade between the two countries are the inclusion of data related to the same transaction in different periods of time, the supply of Uzbek or Turkmen goods from the territory of other countries, which are taken into account in imports by country of origin, the use of various HS classification codes when declaring goods, as well as various approaches to determining the value of goods during their customs declaration.
