On July 31, 2023, by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan, the "Agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates" was ratified.

The agreement regulates the interaction between the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Federal Customs Authority of the United Arab Emirates, primarily in such areas as the prevention of customs offenses, mutual information exchange, research and development of new customs procedures, training of employees, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

The impetus for the development of cooperation with the Federal Customs Authority of the UAE was given by the official visit of the esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the United Arab Emirates in November 2022. Then, in the city of Abu Dhabi, on November 21, 2022, the Agreement was signed and the legal basis for further bilateral cooperation was laid.
