A national workshop on various transit systems, their requirements and applications was held in Ashgabat from March 5 to 7, which was organized by the European Union (EU) Border Management Assistance Program in Central Asia - Phase 10 (BOMCA 10) in cooperation with the US Agency for International Cooperation development (USAID). 10 customs officers took part in the seminar.

EU experts from the Customs Department of the State Revenue Service of Latvia introduced participants to the international legal framework and best practices in the field of customs transit, and shared their experience in the use of various transit regimes, such as TIR Carnets and national transit.

This event is aimed, firstly, at improving the efficiency of customs transit, and secondly, at developing recommendations for the harmonization of national transit applications and a model for guidance on the harmonization of legislation, the exchange of transit data and cooperation between the customs authorities of Central Asian countries in the application of transit regimes.
