On April 17, 2019 in Ashgabat, the official welcoming ceremony was held for President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae Ying, who arrived on the eve of a state visit, reports the Turkmen State News Agency.

The ceremony took place on Independence Square. Here the heads of state met with members of official delegations of the two countries. The leaders of the diplomatic corps accredited in Turkmenistan were also represented to the President of the Republic of Korea.

After the ceremony of official photographing of the leaders of the two countries against the background of the State Flags, the Turkmen-Korean summit talks began first with a narrow-format meeting. Further, they will continue in an expanded composition.

During the high-level talks, the significance of expanding collaboration in cultural-humanitarian sphere was noted.  In Turkmenistan, the Korean language and ancient distinctive culture of Korean people is highly respected.  In last years, more than 170 Turkmen students have completed and currently continue their studies in the high education institutions of the Republic of Korea.  One of the traditional aspects of bilateral cooperation is sport.  Martial arts sport types are very famous in Turkmenistan, one of which is the national Korean combat sport – Taekwondo.  Great opportunities are unfolding for cooperation in the sphere of tourism.
